Sheikh and his son had gone missing from a Lahore suburb on Wednesday evening. Unidentified men posing as policemen had picked up Shaikh and his son from near his house, bundled them into a pick-up truck and taken to an unknown location. An hour-and-a-half later, Sheikh and his son were dumped beside a highway by the kidnappers.

Shaikh told reporters in Lahore that he suspected that the men belonged to an intelligence agency. No arrests have been made yet.

Shaikh has been receiving threats ever since he became the lawyer for Singh in 2009. His house has been attacked, his car has been damaged and his wife has also been threatened. After Singh’s death this year, Shaikh went into hiding and had said that he feared for his life.
