A bus carrying children home from school in northern England crashed into a car and overturned, killing three people and injuring dozens more, police said.
Two teenagers -- a boy and a girl who had been on the bus -- and the male driver of the Honda car involved in the crash were killed in the accident on Monday.
It happened when the coach apparently swerved to avoid a vehicle on a busy road, before colliding with the Honda and flipping over.
Four people were critically injured and 35 others suffered less serious wounds after the crash near Keswick, in the Lake District, said police. Injuries included fractures and spinal damage.
"My officers and people from the other emergency services found a very difficult situation to deal with," said local police official Kevin Greenhow.
"There were people who have been seriously injured, that was obvious from the outset, and also a lot of people suffering from the traumatic effects of what has happened."
The children were all from the same school in Keswick. Local authorities saod psychologists would be provided for pupils at the school.
"Following the tragedy we are offering all the help and support we can to the children, families and staff affected," said Moira Swann, head of children's services in the area.
