Seven people were injured when a five-storey building under construction collapsed in central China, the official media reported on Friday.

The accident occurred on Thursday about 6 pm (local time) at Qiaokou District in Hubei Province, leaving an unknown number of construction workers buried under the rubble, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported quoting Liu Mingzhu, an officer with the rescue contingent.

Although no deaths were reported, rescuers failed to detect signs of life under the debris, Liu said, adding the seven people who were injured after being hit by falling bricks were admitted to hospital.
