Deposed Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has held telephonic talks with former premier Benazir Bhutto on political issues facing their country, including strengthening of pro-democracy alliance.
Sharif, who was in Dubai to offer condolences over the death of Dubai ruler and UAE Vice President Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, discussed with Bhutto the political situation in Pakistan and strengthening of the alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) in the country.
"They will probably meet in the near future in London or at some other destination," Ishaq Dar, a close associate of Nawaz and former finance minister of Pakistan, said, adding "it was not an appropriate time to meet," he said.
Nawaz Sharif also held talks with Makhdoum Amin Fahim, Chairman of ARD and Vice-Chairman of PPP, who represented Benazir.
Makhdoum said it was a very important meeting and paved the way for future cooperation between the two parties.
Issues related to Kalabagh Dam and the situation in Balochistan were discussed, while both sides also spoke about the possibilities of an alliance for the upcoming Senate elections.
Dar said the issue of electoral alliance did not come under discussion. "Our first priority is to work together on the platform of ARD in joint struggle for restoration of democracy."
The former prime minister, who lives in exile in Jeddah, said he is restless to go back to his country. "The day is not far away when I will be among my people. You will hear good news very soon," he told supporters in Dubai.
