Six blasts in Lahore, 5 hurt

Six small explosions went off outside theatres in Lahore wounding at least five people, police and rescue workers said.

Six small explosions went off outside theatres in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Friday wounding at least five people, police and rescue workers said.

Fours blasts went off mid-evening outside a theatre on the city-centre Mall Road, wounding five people. About 90 minutes later, two more went off outside a theatre in another part of the city, police said.

There were no reports of casualties from the second attack.

There was no claim of responsibility.

About two months ago, there was a similar attack in the city outside a cafe popular with youngsters.

Islamist militants are waging a violent campaign against the government and its security forces with numerous bomb attacks in the northwest of the country, near the Afghan borer.

Lahore, near the border with India, has seen some serious bomb attacks over the past couple of years but generally it has been more peaceful than the northwest.
