Taliban fighters blew up a state run girls' school in the restive Khyber tribal region in northwest Pakistan today but there were no reports of casualties, officials said.

The girls' primary school at Landi Kotal in Khyber Agency collapsed after the blast.

The Taliban have declared schooling for girls as "un-Islamic" and frequently target government run schools in the tribal belt and parts of the Khyber-Pakhthunkhwa province.

In a separate development, a roadside bomb exploded in Hangu district though there were no reports of casualties. The explosion occurred in the Kotkai area of Hangu.

Security forces were rushed to the site. Officials said the bomb was planted along a road apparently to target a foot patrol.
