Around 10,000 people on Sunday attended the gathering in Istanbul organised by the Islamic Saadet party, angered by what they see as Chinese mistreatment of the Muslim Uighur minority in the Xinjiang region.
Demonstrators chanted “China the murderer, free East Turkestan”, the name some Muslims use to refer to Xinjiang.
Others held pictures of Rebiya Kadeer, leader of the exiled Uighur community.
