Two planes collide in Philippines, one pilot killed

Two light planes collided in southern Philippines, killing one of the pilots, while a chartered plane reportedly crashed in an eastern province.

Two light planes collided on Monday in mid-air in southern Philippines, killing one of the pilots, while a chartered plane reportedly crashed in an eastern province, aviation officials said.

The two light planes were spraying pesticide on a banana plantation in Kapalong town in Davao del Norte province, 960 km south of Manila, when the accident happened.

One of the pilots suffered severe burns and was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. The pilot of the other plane was able to jump and suffered fractures and remained in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the air transportation office has confirmed a police report that a chartered plane crash-landed in Burias island in the eastern province of Masbate.
