More than one million people in the region have been evacuated as local authorities are bracing for the 16th typhoon this year, Xinhua news agency reported.

Fujian, drenched by heavy downpours, has issued warning of possible mud-rock flow and slides.

Krosa is expected to make a landfall between Wenling of Zhejiang and Ningde of Fujian today before heading north, the Zhejiang observatory said.

Wenzhou city of Zhejiang Province has issued a red warning signal and ordered ferries, sightseeing boats and fishing vessels to head for safe harbours.

The typhoon has also prompted school closure and flight cancellations in Wenzhou.

As of early today, Krosa was whirling at sea about 270 km off Wenling in southern Zhejiang with sustained winds of 126 kmph, the Wenzhou meteorological observatory said.
