UK: ‘Leave’ open up seven point lead over ‘Remain’ before EU referendum

Britons will vote on June 23 on whether to remain part of the EU, a choice with far-reaching consequences for politics, the economy, defence and diplomacy in Britain and elsewhere.

British support for leaving the European Union stood at 46%, ahead of the 39% who want to remain part of the bloc, according to a YouGov poll for The Times published on Monday.

The same pollster found the ‘Leave’ campaign had a one-point lead over the ‘Remain’ side in a poll published on Saturday.

Separately on Monday an ORB poll for the Daily Telegraph newspaper showed 49% of Britons would opt to leave the EU, with 48% opting to remain.

Meanwhile, Britain’s most-read newspaper The Sun urged readers to vote to leave the EU in an editorial splashed across its Tuesday front page in the colours of the Union Jack.

“We are about to make the biggest political decision of our lives. The Sun today urges everyone to vote LEAVE.”

The editorial argued the vote was a chance for Britain to reclaim its mantle as a great nation and control immigration into the country.
