A statement from the UN force, known by the acronym Minustah, said 46-year-old sgt. Ndagijimana Serge Kamari was shot Friday during the attack in Port-au-Prince. He died from his injuries in a Dominican hospital on Tuesday.

UN police spokesperson Raymond Lamarre said "he lost his life in the peace process."

Lamarre and other officials did not provide a possible motive for the slaying, citing an ongoing probe. They said the attack occurred at his home.

Kamari came to Haiti in April and was assigned to a regular patrol of a Port-au-Prince camp.
