"The embassy temporarily suspended routine consular services including visa services beginning on Thursday," Lou Flintor told reporters.

"Emergency services to American citizens will continue to be available," Flintor added.

He said the embassy also warned the American citizens not to stay in big hotels in Lahore after it received a threat message on Wednesday night.

The move by the US embassy came following Saturday's Marriott Hotel blast in the federal capital.

Two suicide bombers rammed an explosives-laden dumper into the gate of the Marriott Hotel, killing some 60 people and injuring 266 on Saturday.

The British Airways also suspended all its flights to Pakistan after the deadly blast.
