The US has not requested Pakistan for access to the family of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden who was gunned by US forces in Abbottabad, authorities in Islamabad said.
"The US has not made any formal request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for access to bin Laden's widows and children," Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua on Tuesday told Dawn.
She said that no request for extradition or consular access had been received from either Saudi Arabia or Yemen, which are the countries of origin of Osama's widows and children.
US Navy Seals killed Osama who was hiding in a mansion in Abbottabad May 2. The team had flown into the country in stealth helicopters and they completed the daring raid in 40 minutes.
The al Qaeda leader's three wives and their children are among a group of about 15 people who were taken into custody by Pakistani security agencies.
Foreign secretary Salman Bashir too had said that the US had not contacted Islamabad to seek access to members of Osama's family.
