Media reports said that another Indian student was injured in an attack at a mall in Adelaide. The 22-year-old student was left with a bloodied nose and sore jaw after the attack on Thursday, The Advertiser reported on Friday.

Waugh, 44, who has been involved in charity work in India for over a decade, told the Hindustan Times in an email that the “safety and security of any young person in a foreign country is a serious concern and paramount.”

“I appeal to all concerned to bring to an end this unfortunate chain of events,” he urged.

His comments came after a week of nightly student protests in Sydney’s west, which resulted in clashes with the police, reports of retaliation by Indians and an admission on Wednesday by the Victorian police commissioner that some of the attacks were “clearly racist in motivation.”
