WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange filed papers in a British court this week in a last-ditch effort to stave off extradition to Sweden in a sex-crime case. He fears the United States will then extradite him from Sweden to face possible charges over WikiLeaks' release of classified US documents.

Assange is Australian. His 60-year-old mother lives in rural Queensland state.
