World's biggest polluters fail to agree on emissions

Climate negotiators from the world's biggest polluters have failed to agree on specific goals for cutting emissions of the gases that cause global warming.

The French host of the meeting, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, says the 16 countries will hold two more meetings in May and June. They are working toward an agreement before their leaders meet in Japan in July.

Jouyet says differences over medium-term emissions cuts "dominated" two days of climate talks that ended in Paris on tonight. He says no quantitative goals were set and cited differences between the US and EU positions.

Participants have estimated it would cost a staggering $200 billion a year to fight the effects of climate change in the coming years.
