Zardari sworn in as Pak president

PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari was sworn in as the 14th president of Pakistan, succeeding the former army general Pervez Musharraf who resigned under threat of impeachment last month.

Asif Ali Zardari was on Tuesday sworn in as the President of Pakistan after he swept to victory in polls on Saturday.

Zardari, husband of slain former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was administered the oath of office in English by Chief Justice of Pakistan Abdul Hamid Dogar.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who withdrew support to the PPP-led coalition Government, was not present at the ceremony.
