Curfew not relaxed in Seoni’s Barghat

The authorities did not relax the curfew imposed at Barghat in district Seoni after an incident of setting a car ablaze in village Khut was reported on Tuesday.

The authorities did not relax the curfew imposed at Barghat in district Seoni after an incident of setting a car ablaze in village Khut was reported on Tuesday. Khut is some 2-3 kilometers far from Barghat.

“A car was set on fire by some persons in Khut village, Barghat town inspector GN Uikey said. The situation in the village is under control and the police force is deployed there, he said.

Investigation is in progress to find out whether the incident in village Khut has any connection with the tension prevailing in Barghat on Monday, he added. The anti-riot squad was also deployed in Barghat.

“The process to identify the persons involved in arson and stone pelting in Barghat is on”, Seoni district collector Bharat Yadav said adding as yet no arrest is done though the identification process is going on.

“The administration will review the situation in the morning on Wednesday whether to give relaxation in the curfew or not”, he said.

A local businessman Sunil Thakur said, “I have no milk to feed the children”. He said “some schoolchildren belonging to Barghat studying in Seoni are stuck there as they used to travel to and fro. Their parents couldn’t pick them following sudden imposition of curfew”.

Divisional commissioner (revenue) Gulshan Bamra and inspector general of police (Jabalpur range) D Sriniwas Rao visited Barghat to review the situation.
