Be it participating in charity events for Nepal earthquake survivors or running a marathon for cancer patients, actor Ali Fazal has been an active participant in social causes. And he says that he intends to up social activism full time in the future.
“Everyone is responsible for what is happening in our country. The onus of supporting social causes is more on actors because we are in a visual medium. I know for a fact that I will be heavily involved in social activities later in my career,” says Fazal, who has been part of films such as 3 Idiots (2009), Fukrey (2013), Bobby Jasoos (2014)and Khamoshiyan (2015).
Fazal says that many actors are indifferent towards social issues in the country, but he does not approve of this mentality.
“A lot of my actor friends tell me that they don’t want to comment on social issues because they are actors and feel they have nothing to do with it or talk about it in public. But I think it is a social responsibility that we take up the moment we enter this profession because there are so many people following you,” he says and adds, “I can’t stand people who say that they are apolitical.”
But does the 29-year-old actor fears getting naysayers’ attention? “I don’t intend to offend anyone with my thoughts, but I still have faith in our country’s democracy and social system. So why should I ever refrain myself from expressing my opinion? There is always hope and people should be open about their thoughts,” he says.
