Dawood Ibrahim and other controversial names, already run in the first promo of Shootout at Wadala, have been edited now. The afterthought has been done to avoid any kind of dispute, reports Mid-Day.
“Sonu Sood plays Dawood while Manoj Bajpai plays Sabbir. Anil Kapoor will be seen as Isaac and John play Manya. However in spite of the first promo creating the necessary buzz, the new promo strangely has no names of these characters", a source told the daily.
Mid-Day also quotes an insider who says that it could be a pressure from the original characters to remove their names as initially Ekta Kapoor was always adamant to use the real names.
John Abraham is playing a gangster called Manya Surve who was shot dead in Wadala, Mumbai. The film will dramatise the first-ever registered encounter by Mumbai police, where Surve was shot, which took place at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, Sangam Nagar, Wadala on 1 November 1982.

Watch: John Abraham in action avatar in Shootout At Wadala
The actor stuns in the action sequences from the gangster flick and looks promising in his Manya Surve's look.
This is the first of its kind when actor John Abraham will be playing a strong role. The trailer, which is full of action-packed scenes, already gives a glimpse to John's powerful acting.
The film has been mostly shot in slums in Mumbai.
Why John Abraham refused to go shirtless for Shootout at Wadala
The makers of director Sanjay Gupta’s much talked-about film, Shootout At Wadala, had organised a grand audience-engaging event at a mall in the central suburbs of the city last evening.
The film is based on the shootout of underworld don Manya Surve (played by John Abraham) and the makers modelled the event on the real-life incidents that occurred then, such as a live shootout and blowing up of cars in front of the mall.An insider reveals that the makers wanted John to appear in his on-screen avatar, so the actor was asked to appear shirtless. John declined to do so. "John might have been worried that the crowds will get out of control if he appeared without a shirt," says the source.
