However, the studios have labelled the reports as “inaccurate”.bollywood Updated: Jun 03, 2017 18:54 IST
The makers of Sanjay Dutt biopic on Friday finalised the release date for the yet-to-be-titled film as March 30, 2018. A press statement also announced that Fox Studios signed a three-film deals with director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, starting with the biopic.
Media reports claimed on Saturday that Fox has paid an unprecedented amount for the biopic alone! The satellite rights of the movie are yet to be sold. A DNA report quoted a source as saying, “The film’s profits will be shared 85-15. While Hirani will keep 85 per cent of the profits, the studio will get a mere 15 per cent.”
Refuting the rumours, a spokesman for Fox Star Studios told Hindustan Times, “The report that has appeared today about the cost and nature of the deal for the untitled Sanjay Dutt biopic is inaccurate. Fox Star Studios, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra have gotten into a three film deal which includes the Dutt biopic & Vidhu’s directorial , & a third film - the details of which will be announced later.”
“Importantly , it is the start of a strategic relationship & this deal encompasses the worldwide theatrical rights, satellite & rights for Hotstar. We look forward to a long & successful relationship with Raju & Vidhu which spans across all their films in the future,” he added.
The shooting of the film began in January. As part of his preparation for the role, Ranbir has gained more than 13kg to tone up his muscle to match the muscular physique of Sanjay Dutt
The film also features Sonam Kapoor as Sanjay’s earlier love interest, Vicky Kaushal as his friend from the US, Anushka Sharma as a journalist and Manisha Koirala as Nargis, Sanjay’s mother, whose death in 1981 from pancreatic cancer, affected him deeply.
The untitled biopic will be the first film to be made on a Bollywood star.
