NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old IT professional was killed and three people injured after their car crashed into a truck at a traffic signal in south Delhi’s Adchini on Thursday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place at around 11.30 pm when the Maruti Swift car, coming reportedly at a high speed from Katwaria Sarai, rammed a truck, which had stopped at a traffic signal on the Adchini main road.

“It happened very quickly. One second it was just the car coming at a very high speed. The next second there was a loud sound of a crash,” said Aditya Verma, a local, who witnessed the accident while returning home after office.

“The car hit the backside of a truck. The front portion of the car was completely damaged,” Verma said. 

Locals called the police, who then brought four men out of the car with the help of a rescue team. Harbhajan, 28, who was driving the car died.

The other three, Shubham Dua, Aditya Ranjan and Sumit Rana, were injured.

Dua and Ranjan work in merchant navy and Rana is an IT professional.

Sumit (29) and Shubham (24), who suffered severe head injuries, were rushed to Rockland Hospital in Katwaria Sarai at around 2am. Doctors said that their condition is stable. The other two were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where Harbhajan was declared brought.

Police suspect that the four were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

“The driver of the truck fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind. A case has been filed at the Vasant Vihar police station.
