Armaan Malik (popular for singing the song Main Hoon Hero Tera from the 2015 Bollywood film, Hero) takes us through his extensive wardrobe, at his Versova home. One look and his love for jackets is obvious; most of his closet space is dedicated to them.

Fashion sensibilities: “For me, style should be something that makes you stand out and yet feel comfortable. I like experimenting with my look. I’d prefer being overdressed and prepared rather than underdressed.”

Closet staples: “Plain tees. Also, I’m fascinated with jackets and blazers. Whenever I go out, I have to have a jacket on. I prefer casual ones for a party and semi-formal ones for events.”

Black is beautiful: “I love black. I overdo it at times, but for me, black never fails.”

Brand love: “Zara has always been a favourite. I like Gap 1969 Jeans. They always have tailor-made stuff for me. I also discovered this brand called Pull & Bear, in Thailand. It has some great cardigans. I raided the entire store.”

Can’t do without: “My jeans. Apart from that, my blazers and jackets, which are like the heroes of my wardrobe. I once misplaced a very cool bomber jacket from Zara and was very upset about it.”

Style advice: “My mentor, Salman Khan, once told me that if your jeans and shirt are not the right fit, you have failed. He also asked me to wear boots. So I have them in all sizes and styles.”

Impulsive shopper: “Guys are known to be lazy shoppers but, for me, it is extremely important to look good. I am very finicky because I hate repeating clothes.”

Style no-no: “Printed pants. I think they look like night suits. I don’t like polka dots either; they remind me of chicken pox.”

Watch it: “I love Casio G-Shocks. My dream is to have watches in all colours. I also love gold watches. I’d like to have a diamond-studded gold watch some day.”

Accessory love: “I love this chain that I wear all the time. It has been a constant in my look. I wear it even if it doesn’t go with the overall look.”

Style icon: “Ranveer Singh kills it every time. He likes experimenting, and that’s what makes him stand out. At a recent awards show, he complimented me on my look, so I think I’m on the right track. I also look up to my designer Avesh Dadlani. He convinced me to wear an oriental jacket at a show. It’s something I never thought I could pull off.”

Oldest piece of clothing: “I was playing Shah Rukh Khan in Little Stars Antakshari, a TV show where I was the co-host, and I wore the black suit that he’d worn in Don in 2006. It still fits me after more than a decade.”

At home: “You’ll find me in tracks and T-shirts.”

Fetishes: “I like collecting fedoras. Whenever I go abroad for shows, I always look to buy one.”
