Two days after the Swachh Survekshan declared Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s constituency of Karnal the cleanest city in the state, Sirsa dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Saturday launched a special cleanliness drive in the city.

The Dera Sacha Sauda head has called upon his followers from the region to join the campaign and an estimated two lakh are taking part. They will generate awareness among the residents about the importance of cleanliness in their localities.

Karnal deputy commissioner Mandeep Brar said the city has been divided into four zones for the cleanliness drive and about 200 tractor trolleys and 40 JCB machines have been engaged.

The administration has made arrangements for the accommodation and facilities for the dera followers.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim has launched similar cleanliness campaigns in cities such as Sirsa, Panipat and Kaithal since 2013.

Dera volunteers carried out such campaigns in Mumbai, Ilford, London, and Hackett Valley Park in Toronto in 2014.
