Two militants were killed earlier in the day while the third militant was gunned down later.

Army spokesperson NN Joshi said the gunfight started after security personnel cordoned off a forest area in Lolab and were fired upon by the hiding militants.

According to Jammu and Kashmir police, a joint party of the army and special operations group of state police launched the operation in Gujarpati Potushai after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

“The militants present in the woods opened fire on the forces triggering a gun fight,” a police official said.

The official said that the identity of the slain militants was not immediately known.

Joshi said the operation against the militants was still on.
