A man, who was trying to take a selfie with a chained jumbo that was retiring after a gruelling temple festival, was attacked by the animal on Wednesday night.
Srillal, 37, offered bananas to the elephant, which the animal ate. However, the jumbo tried to gore the man when he tried to take a selfie with him.
The commotion woke up two mahouts, who saved Srillal before the elephant could attack him further. He was rushed to the medical college hospital.
Srillal suffered injuries on his thighs. Doctors said he was out of danger. “It was a grave mistake to approach the elephant when mahouts were sleeping. I don’t know why people are so crazy about dangerous selfies,” a temple official said.
Last week a couple had a close shave when an express train rammed their vehicle that they had stopped on an unmanned level-crossing to take a selfie.
