Commuters on a Malad-bound train from Churchgate on Monday panicked, as the train didn’t stop at Malad, which was to be the last station. Instead, they were taken to the railway car shed at Kandivli.

The train started from Churchgate at 10.50am. The motorman, Jagdish Parmar, and guard Deepak Prasad have apparently told their seniors they didn’t halt the train, as they forgot it was a Malad-bound train. They told it was Borivli-bound, said sources.

WR spokesperson confirmed the incident. “The train overshot the Malad platform. As it couldn’t return, it was taken to the Kandivli yard,” said Ravinder Bhakar, adding they are conducting a probe into the incident.

According to railway sources, such incidents often occur between Andheri and Borivli stations, as Virar fast trains don’t stop between Andheri and Borivali stations, while Borivali fast trains stop at all stations.
