Two teenagers drown in Mumbai’s Aarey Colony well

Two teenagers drowned in a well at Aarey Colony in Goregaon (East) when they went there for a swim on Thursday, the police said.
According to officials, the two, Prathamesh Malvankar and Shubham Sharma, both 17 years old, were part of a group of five that had gone to Vani Pada around 10.30 am.
“Three of them stepped inside the well even though they did not know how to swim. The incident took place around 10.45 am,” said Vijay Oulkar, senior inspector.
According to the police, they were holding on to the wall and trying to swim. One of them lost his grip and started to drown, after which another tried to rescue him. However, both of them drowned. The third managed to get out of the well, police said.
The fire brigade received an alert about the mishap around 11.30 am, after which two fire engines and an ambulance was dispatched.
The police then alerted an NDRF team. The NDRF team arrived at 2pm and found the bodies of the boys.
