It is well-known that Yo Yo Honey Singh’s long absence from the music scene was due to the fact that he was suffering from bipolar disorder. The singer-rapper recently opened up about the illness, which is characterised by periods of extreme mood swings. As a result, he disappeared from the music industry for a long time, even though he was at the peak of his career.

During this difficult phase, one of Yo Yo’s childhood friends, Bobby Suri, stood by him. “When Bobby heard about Yo Yo’s condition, he immediately left his flourishing career in law in Australia, and came back to India. He did not think even once before leaving it all for his friend,” says an insider.

Bobby has not just taken care of the singer for almost 18 months, he also looked after the welfare of his family. “It was neither easy for Yo Yo to deal with it, nor easy for Bobby to handle him. Bobby did not think of going back to Australia even once in these past 18 months, not even when Yo Yo was showing signs of improvement,” adds the insider.

Now that Yo Yo has recovered, Bobby has become the artiste’s confidante, and is always around him, advising him and handling his work. “Honey is more than thankful to his friend for selflessly standing by him,” says the insider. Bobby says, “Yo Yo himself is the best friend a person can have, and that drove me to think that I must be there when he is unwell. He underwent this trauma, and he has come back from the brink.”

What is bipolar disorder?

Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). When you become depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities. When your mood shifts, you may feel euphoric and full of energy.
