Sacked state convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Saturday demanded that the party’s national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal should ban the sale and consumption of liquor, meat and tobacco within 2km radius of Delhi’s historical gurdwaras.

In a statement, he said Kejriwal had promised to ban all these items in the walled city of Amritsar if voted to power in Punjab. “Why should he not start at the place where he is already in power? We demand that liquor, meat and tobacco be banned around Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Rakab Ganj Gurdwara and Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib,” he said. A similar demand was made by SGPC member Hardeep Singh on Friday.

Jasraj to hold rally

Punjabi singer and actor Jassi Jasraj, who was expelled from the AAP, announced that he would hold a “volunteer self-respect rally” in Sahnewal at noon on Sunday. Jasraj said he had invited all volunteers of the AAP who had felt demeaned working for the party. “AAP leaders made volunteers work for two years saying that the ticket will go to one of them. But the list of candidates declared by the party shows that only those who are rich or are sycophants have been chosen,” he said.

AAP is PAAP: BJP Mahila Morcha

Stepping up its attack against the AAP, Punjab unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha held demonstrations in Fazilka, Patiala, Khanna and Amritsar (rural and urban). Women protesters waived black flags and shouted slogans of “Kejriwal go back”. Leading the protests in Fazilka, morcha chief Mona Jaiswal said: “AAP leaders have sexually exploited women in Punjab. His own partymen are levelling these allegations. These incidents have exposed the real character of the AAP and it should be now re-named PAAP.”

Dr Gandhi supports Bains brothers

Patiala MP Dharamvira Gandhi, who has been suspended from AAP, came in the support on independent MLAs Balwinder Bains and Simarjeet Singh Bains, who were thrown out of the Vidhan Sabha on Friday for defying the speaker’s orders.

Dr Gandhi said the Bains brothers were raising a valid point. “The Punjab government should demand payment from Rajasthan for the river water,” he said.
