Aryan Kansal (11), who was kidnapped from a park at RV Shanti Nagar locality of Jaitu town on Saturday evening, returned home on Wednesday after the family reportedly paid ransom for his release.

The police have arrested Shiv Kumar Goyal, a close relative of the family who allegedly masterminded the kidnapping for ransom.

“The police have been investigating the case and were keeping tabs on the suspects. The police have now identified the accused and the main accused, Shiv Kumar Goyal, has been arrested. Shiv is a relative of the family and the motive of kidnapping was to extort more money. Shiv executed the plan with the help of his accomplices after long planning,” said Sukhminder Singh Mann, SSP Faridkot.

The police did not disclose the money that exchanged hands for the safe release of the child or any recovery of the ransom from the main accused. Sources said the child was also kept in Giddarbaha town of Muktsar after he was kidnapped on Saturday evening. He was released after the amount was paid to the kidnappers.

Shiv Kumar, a resident of Bajakhana Road, is a cousin of the child’s mother Usha Kansal. Usha is working in the excise department while her husband Sandeep Kansal is a jeweller.

The child was kidnapped when he was playing in the park. He was taken away on a two-wheeler by two persons. The police had registered a case under section 365 of the IPC after the incident.
