Sec-45 firing: CCTV footage secured, affair fuelled attack

A day after a 40-year-old financier was shot at in Sector 45, police have sent a team to Kurukshetra (native place of the victim) to conduct a raid at the possible hide-outs of the accused. Police suspect that the firing took place due to an alleged illicit relationship between victim Karan Singh Pehalwan, of Sector 46, and a woman, reported to his second wife, with whom he had kids as well.

A day after a 40-year-old financier was shot at in Sector 45, police have sent a team to Kurukshetra (native place of the victim) to conduct a raid at the possible hide-outs of the accused. Police suspect that the firing took place due to an alleged illicit relationship between victim Karan Singh Pehalwan, of Sector 46, and a woman, reported to his second wife, with whom he had kids as well. 

Police sources stated that the brother-in-laws of the victim’s second wife may be involved in opening fire at Pehalwan. The police also secured the CCTV footage of the Sector-45 market on Thursday.

Sources said that three unidentified persons, in their 20s, can be seen carrying weapons and running around in the footage.

SSP Eish Singhal said teams had been sent to Panipat and Kurukshetra area and raids were being conducted at several places.  Sources also said that the victim’s 10-year-old son from his first wife was allegedly kidnapped, 10 days ago, although the child had returned home. 

 The case 

■ Three unidentified men had fired at a 40-year-old financier Karan Singh Pehalwan on Wednesday night.

 ■ Pehalwan was hit by two bullets and was rushed to GMCH-Sector 32. He was referred to PGIMER as he was in a critical condition. 

■ Karan resides in Sector 46 and owns a shop in Burail. He hails from Kurukshetra.

■ Police had stated that the assailants fired three gunshots at the victim. One bullet each hit the victim’s right arm and a leg. 

■ Sources had also said the attackers, who were aged between 16 and 18, also hit the victim’s face with a rod, following which his jaw was broken. 

■ The victim had tried to escape but was chased by the miscreants. After the first gunshot, the victim had entered a tailor’s shop in the market where the assailants followed him and fired at him again, before fleeing.

■ Police sources said bullet shell of .12 bore and .38 bore guns and a bullet were recovered from the spot.
