Comedian and TV host Kapil Sharma getting a statue at Madame Tussauds in London may have possibly been the biggest news for the Indian television industry and as much as we’d want to boast about it, we are sorry to burst the bubble.
On Friday morning a whole section of media carried news item of the wax figurine of the comedian featuring at Madame Tussauds.
It was reported that “The work on Kapil’s statue has begun. The statue will be ready in about six months and then unveiled. Team Madame Tussauds flew down to Mumbai to take Kapil’s pictures and measurements. We hear, the same team which flew down to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi for his statue, met Kapil for his.” The reports also had pictures of Kapil with the Madame Tussauds team.
However, in reply to a mail from Hindustan Times, the authorities at Madame Tussauds responded, “Thanks for getting in touch. We currently don’t have any plans to make a figure of Kapli Sharma at Madame Tussauds London, but we will take the suggestion into consideration for the future, thank you. Once we have confirmed a new figure we always publish the news on our website and social media pages first, so stay tuned there to get the official up to date latest figure news.”
All that the Madame Tussauds officials confirmed was “At this early stage, all we can confirm is that Delhi will be become the newest location for a Madame Tussauds wax attraction in early 2017. Full details of the experiences and celebrity figures to be featured are still being finalised. As soon as we have any further information we will be sure to pass on.”
If it was an early April Fool’s prank, we’d like to congratulate those responsible for it, but we didn’t bite the bait!
