Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar created history on Indian television with their successful show Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (BAHL), which aired in 2011 and lasted for three years. Two years later, the hit couple is now returning in a web series that’s being produced by Ekta Kapoor.

Ram says he is excited about the project, as he has been offered roles in web series for the past year. “Web series have become hot property, and many people are making them. I knew I would act in one or two, but this one is the icing on the cake, as it will be with Ekta, who I started my television career with,” the actor adds. Ram will be shooting for the show for the next few months.

Ram doesn’t want to reveal much about the new web series, but adds, “Ram and Sakshi’s fans will surely not be disappointed.” The 43-year-old actor says he is looking forward to the response to the web series, which he says will cater to a younger audience, as it will be “bolder, fresher and more youthful than television”. He assures that it won’t be so bold that a family won’t be able to watch it together.

While the actor is all for the new medium, he doesn’t consider it a threat to television. “A few years ago, TV grew exponentially in India, and is now huge. Similarly, the web will make its place, too. In the West, online channels are doing well alongside TV channels. They both have their spaces and will continue to grow and thrive. I don’t think one will cannibalise the other,” he says.

Speaking about his pairing with Sakshi, which worked due to their chemistry, performances and the story of BAHL, Ram says, “She is a phenomenally good actor. We have tremendous respect and trust for each other. We were good friends and admired each other’s work even before we worked together. The sets of our shows, Kasam Se and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, were close by and we met often. When you work with people who know their job well, it becomes easier to work with them.”

Ram credits Ekta for the pair’s success as well, saying the director knows the actors as well as their strengths and weaknesses.
