Farhad Hussain is back with his trademark quirky and colour-strong artworks at the Museum Art Gallery, Mumbai.

The 33-year-old artist is back with his trademark quirky and colour-strong artworks at the Museum Art Gallery. People and animals, mostly grouped as families, are the leitmotif of his works.

In the last eight months, Farhad Hussain has readied the current show comprising 10 paintings and six sculptures. He specialises in the medium of tempera on cloth. Hussain gravitated towards fibre glass sculpture a year ago because he wanted to attempt subjects in three-dimensions.

Past record
Hussain studied art at Kala Bhavan in Shantiniketan and at the M S University in Baroda. His first solo shows were held in Delhi. He was awarded the

Nasreen Mohamedi scholarship in 2004.

His earlier works lacked the complexity they convey today, a phase which began when he was in Baroda. He says, “Once, I used to work with images that came from my day-to-day visual experiences. Gradually, these images were touched with humour and sarcasm.” It would seem irony and pun are there to stay in his work.
