Bengaluru hacking: Congress woman councillor held for BJP colleague’s murder
Bengaluru police arrested a councillor of the Bommasandra Town Municipal Council on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a BJP councillor.
Bengaluru police arrested a councillor of the Bommasandra Town Municipal Council on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a BJP councillor.
Sarojamma of the Congress party is believed to have financed the murder, police said.
Srinivas Prasad, a BJP party member and also councillor, was hacked to death in the city’s outskirts on Tuesday morning. Police said unknown assailants attacked him with sickles near Bommasandra area.
Sarojamma's son Manja is the prime accused who allegedly hatched the plan to have Prasad murdered.
“Manja is absconding and a search has been launched,” Amit Singh, superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural, said.
According to police, the plan was put together to help Sarojamma become president. Manja masterminded the operation, in which four others were involved, all of who have been arrested.
Caste violence has been ruled out since both Prasad and Sarojamma are Dalits.
Police said they cracked the case based on eye witness accounts and also by tracking mobile phone activity in the area.
Meanwhile, the BJP took out a protest in Bengaluru on Thursday condemning the murder.
