Lucky are those who get to mix work and pleasure and Akshay Kumar is one such person. The actor, who is holidaying in New York currently, will take a day’s break and Birmingham, UK, to watch the India-Pakistan match on June 15, to promote his upcoming film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again.

While Akshay is known to be an ardent cricket lover, his character Shoaib, in Once Upon… is a powerful don who wields the power to influence cricket matches. It is not a mere coincidence that the match shown in the film is also an India-Pakistan game. Confirming the news, Tanuj Garg, CEO-Balaji Motion Pictures, says, “As a company known for pushing the envelope on marketing, we will have our Shoaib attending the India-Pakistan match at Edgbaston. Cricket is a perfect fit with his character in the film, as seen in the first trailer.”

The actor is also keen to watch the match. “Akshay is a cricket lover, and he has been a thorough professional to take a day out from his family trip to promote the film. It was not pre-planned; this appearance was decided at the last moment,” says a source close to the actor.

The film, set in the ’80s, and directed by Milan Luthria, will see the actor essay the role of a cricket-loving gangster. The makers, keeping the essence of the film and Akshay’s role in mind, thought it was a great idea to promote the film during the match.
