The public response to director Anees Bazmi’s recent release,
No Problem
, came as a bit of a surprise to the film industry. After churning out hits like
Welcome
and
Singh Is Kinng
, reports of
No Problem
not doing well at the box office didn’t go down well with the director. And in a rare event, Bazmi was even quoted in a leading tabloid saying: “People are now saying
No Problem
‘
mein
problem
hai
’. I knew it even while shooting. The disappointing collections come as no surprise to me.”
But actor Anil Kapoor defends him. “That statement is very unlike Anees and that is not what he meant,” says Kapoor, who was presented the national DVD release of season 8 of TV show
24
on his birthday, December 24. “He (Anees) is regretting having spoken to the journalist who did the story and clearly said that he has been badly misquoted.”
Kapoor, who has been busy with a Hollywood film, US-based TV show and Bollywood acting-producing projects, is taking some time off now. Having worked non-stop in India and overseas over the last two years with
Slumdog Millionaire, Mission Impossible
and
24
, he will now take 15 days off to rejuvenate.
Asked what plans he has for Hollywood now, he says, “I am going to set up some meetings on my next trip. I have never planned my career, it has all ‘just happened’. They picked me for
Mission Impossible
. Also, I am not in a position to pick things over there, not to the extent that I make these kinds of decisions.” Talking about his foray into the home video category with the
24
Season 8 DVD, he says, “24 is a collector’s item. It’s great to be part of such a great collection all over the world.”
Happy with the response his latest release
No Problem
got, he says, “It’s fortunate that everyone has their money… the film could have been better, much better, but then things can always be right? It has been a positive experience for all the investors and they are very happy. I am happy, I don’t know about anything else.”
