Chittagong Uprising is finally set to see the light of the day. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has lent his name to debutant director Bedobroto Pain’s long-stalled film, to give it a wider reach across India and abroad. Distributor Sunil Bohra has also lent Kashyap his support.

“Anurag is a great friend of mine. He liked the film so much that he asked me to distribute it,” says Bohra, adding, “We will jointly present the film and we are working hard to make it reach as many people as possible. It will have as big a release as any other commercial film.”

Chittagong Uprising is set in the turbulent 1930s in British India; it’s the true story of a 14-year-old boy, Jhunku Roy (played by debutant Vijay Varma), and his journey.

Reportedly, Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se (2010), was based on the same subject, thus becoming a big hurdle for Chittagong Uprising’s release. Kashyap had expressed his contempt on social networking sites, but couldn’t influence the producer’s decision at that point of time. Bohra confirms, “The film will now release sometime between end of February and early March.”

Manoj Bajpai, who plays a pivotal role in the film, is grateful that Kashyap has offered support” “Chittagong is one of the finest films ever made. Anurag was bowled over when he saw it and promised that it will see its end.” Kashyap remained unavailable for comment as he is currently in Paris.
