Popular TV star Manish Paul’s success on the small screen has failed to translate on the big screen. His debut film, Mickey Virus, has failed to create an impact.

Last Friday’s release, which also stars Swedish actor Elli Avram, opened to mixed reviews. In its opening weekend, the film has made only Rs 4.5 crore.

While opening-day collections are pegged at Rs 1.35 crore, the film picked up marginally on Saturday and Sunday. Even then, the figures remain unimpressive. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “The box-office performance is well below expectation. The reason is that it has come during the pre-Diwali phase, when people are busy with festive preparations. Plus, all eyes are on Krrish 3 (which releases on November 1), so that has not helped the film’s case either.”

Although Adarsh feels that the film’s collections haven’t been in sync with its merit, trade expert Vikas Mohan feels its subject went against it. “The film managed to do a tad bit better in multiplexes, but the masses couldn’t connect to the storyline — about hacking etc. If the common man can’t connect to the story, how can a film be expected to perform well?” he says, adding that Krrish 3 hasn’t really affected Mickey Virus. “It’s clearly not a mass-oriented movie,” he adds.
