Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan injured his head after falling off a forklift at a rally in Pakistan on May 7. Injuries are a part and parcel of the film world too. Bollywood stars too, at some point, have twisted an ankle or broken a bone or two while shooting. Here’s looking at some that made headlines.
During the shoot of Yuva (2004), Vivek Oberoi fractured his leg while performing a stunt. The scene involved Oberoi running past several stationary vehicles while a man on a motorcycle chased him. Vivek fell and the motorcycle rode over his left leg. He had another accident while attempting a stunt for Kismet Paisa Love Dilli in 2012 and hurt his back while shooting for Zilla Ghaziabad in the past.
While shooting for Gunday in Kolkata, Ranveer got a nasty gash on his cheek. Again, on the sets of the same film, a piece of glass hurt Ranveer’s foot. He also managed to hurt his fingers while shooting for a sequence in Ram Leela. Later, while shooting for Lootera in Dalhousie, the actor suffered a back injury. He continued filming, but the pain worsened and he was advised bed rest for a couple of months.
During Coolie (1983), while shooting in the University Campus in Bengaluru, Bachchan suffered a near-fatal intestinal injury during the filming of a fight scene with co-actor Puneet Issar. Bachchan was performing his own stunts in the film and the scene required him to fall on a table. However, as he jumped, the corner of the table struck his abdomen, resulting in a rupture. He ended up losing a lot of blood and was hospitalised for a long time.
The actor suffered from multiple fractures on his right leg and ligament tears while participating in the Celebrity Cricket League this year. He lost his balance while fielding for Mumbai Heroes. "Hi, 2 plates n 17 screws finally helped me hold my broken bones. Should be fine in few weeks but feels bad for the cancellation of few films (sic),” said the actor in a tweet at the time.
Recently, while shooting for the tentatively titled Pistol, Akshay Kumar had to perform an action sequence that involved running down a flight of stairs. The actor started the scene on the sixth floor, but he fell while on the second floor and twisted his ankle. He was then advised rest for a few days. Akshay later jokingly mentioned that an ice bag was the sole remedy for his twisted ankle.
