While scouting for locations, he had recorded the Ganga aarti — an evening ritual conducted on the ghats — which he handed over to Rahman.

Rai says, “The movie is based in Varanasi and Delhi. Since Ganga aarti is synonymous with Varanasi, I felt that a song inspired from it would fit well in the film.” He adds, “During the recce, I tried to gather as much information as possible. After I shared the recording with Rahman sir, he went through it and came up with interesting compositions.” The film features actors Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor in the lead.

Ask Rai if Dhanush, who rose to fame after the success of Kolaveri di will also sing for the film and he replies, “Rahman sir will take a call on that front. I have cast Dhanush for his acting talent as he is brilliant and a National Award winner. I am not looking to cash in on the success of Kolaveri di.”

He adds, “Dhanush hasn’t been part of the songs we have recorded. But there are three more tracks yet to be finalised.”
