Actor Richa Chadda, who will be seen in filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-talked about directorial venture Ram Leela, says she was initially sceptical about doing the film as she had not read the script.

“Initially, I was not sure about doing Ram Leela as I had not read the script. I did not get to read the script till one month of filming. As he (Bhansali) is guarded about what he makes. I still can’t talk about it,” she says.

Asked, if it was a dream-come-true to work with Bhansali, the 24-year-old, confesses, “I think it is every actor’s dream to work with him,” and adds, “Bhansali is a tough task master. He will grill you...he will make you give your best...he won’t leave you. I am having fun. I am challenged every day. Now that I have an award behind me people expect me to do my best.”

Richa won critical acclaim for her portrayal of a gangster’s wife in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur.

Asked about her role in Ram Leela, she refrained from divulging anything, citing a non-disclosure agreement, but insisted that she is playing a significant role. “I have signed the film knowing that Ranveer and Deepika are the main characters. I did see something in this film and have hence signed it,” says Richa.

Taking up this film could well be her attempt to enter mainstream Bollywood, given that she has worked with directors like Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee, both of who are known for their parallel films. Ram Leela on the other hand is a hardcore romance-drama based on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
