I have all the praise for Priyanka and the way she has made her mark: Irrfan
Irrfan Khan says there’s a lot of Indian talent that will be seen in international films; but some will be able to sustain, while others won’t.
Of late, many Indian actors such as Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have been creating a buzz in Hollywood. Irrfan Khan, who has acted in several American films, says he won’t be surprised to see more and more Indian actors becoming part of international film industries.
“I have been saying this for years that there is a lot of Indian talent that will be seen in international films soon. It (Indian actors making a mark internationally) is not surprising because sooner or later, it had to happen. When I saw the response Slumdog Millionaire (2008) received, I could foresee this. Some will sustain, while others won’t because Hollywood is a tough industry. That’s why I have all the praise for someone like Priyanka, and the way she has made her mark,” he says.

Irrfan, who is known for his intense performances, has also done out-and-out commercial movies. The actor says it was “interesting” doing those projects as well, as they made him “understand the industry’s politics and also the hierarchy system”.

“I have done certain films, where the most important thing wasn’t the script or the performance, but things like, ‘If there are three people in the frame, where will the rest of the eight [character-actors] stand?’ So, the fight would be about who should be in the centre [of the frame]. That, too, was a learning experience, and I enjoyed it,” he says.
