Inspired by Vajpayee: Aanjjan Srivastav

Usually seen in supporting roles of a bureaucrat or the father of the protagonist, Aanjjan Srivastav is now set to play the antagonist in Wake Up India. Interestingly, the role is of a chief minister, and it is inspired by ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Best known for starring in the TV show Wagle Ki Duniya, Aanjjan Srivastav will now be seen in a novel role in his next film. Usually seen in supporting roles of a bureaucrat or the father of the protagonist, he’s now set to play the antagonist in Wake Up India. Interestingly, the role is of a chief minister, and it is inspired by ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“In the 44 years of my career, I can confidently say that this is the most challenging role I have played,” says Srivastav, adding, “I have spoken and walked like him. I’ve also imbibed his body language and mannerisms such as pausing between words. It was difficult but interesting to completely get into this character.”

Having worked with acclaimed directors and played numerous parts on the screen, the actor believes this may be his best role till date.

“Our film talks about corruption in today’s times and how the youth should wake up and do something about it. Sai Tamhankar’s character accuses me of a crime and he is forced to come to the village, which is how the entire village ends up getting an overhaul,” says Srivastav. Though he hints that the plot draws references from Vajpayee’s life, he refrains from sharing the story.
