Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee’s next flick, a political thriller — Shanghai — is creating ripples in Bollywood. News is that the newly-married Kalki Koechlin has been roped in to play the female lead in the film, that also stars Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi.

Although Kalki is best remembered for her bold outing as Chanda in hubby Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D (2009), the Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) director feels the character Kalki essays in Shanghai will be quite unconventional.

“Everyone remembers Kalki’s Dev D image. But this time, it’ll be very different,” says Dibakar about Kalki’s character in the film.
