Shooting in Mangalore, actor Aahana Kumra happened to meet PT Usha and became a fan of the Indian track and field athlete “all over again”.

“My meeting with PT Usha happened by chance. While shooting for Kudla Café (2015), I used to go for my regular run at the Mangala Stadium. She’d be there to train her students, as her son was studying in a medical school. One day, she came up to me and said that she had seen me running for the last few days, and felt that I run quite well. She also asked me what I do and where I am from. And then, we had a long discussion regarding running, sports in India in general, and we kind of struck a bond,” shares Aahana.

Aahana met P. T. Usha (above) while shooting for her film in Mangalore.

PT Usha left her imprint on the actor. So much so, that Aahana says that if a biopic ever gets made on the athlete — also known as Payyoli Express — then she’d love to play her onscreen.

The actor, whose next film is The Accidental Prime Minister, adds that she was touched by PT Usha’s warmth and smile. “She is an inspiration for all of us, but I feel she is a forgotten hero. She is a strict disciplinarian, who puts a lot of effort towards the students of her academy. She is still so fit and energetic. A biopic on her life would be inspiring,” says Aahana.
