Filmmaker Kabir Khan’s next directorial venture, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role - ‘83 - was initially supposed to release on April 5, 2019 but it has now been postponed to August 30, 2019. Interestingly, Ayan Mukerji’s first film in his fantasy adventure trilogy, Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt-Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Brahmastra, is also slated to release in August 2019.

The film will trace the story of Indian skipper Kapil Dev (to be played by the flamboyant Ranveer) and the entire Indian national cricket team when they won the 1983 World Cup. Sharing his excitement about the film, Ranveer had said, “I was born at the time when cricket was big time. When Kabir Sahab (director Kabir Khan) had come to me and said that there will be a film on 83, I was like finally. And when he was narrating it to me, I was like woooh. It is not a story just about cricket but a human story.”

The 1983 World Cup has been a celebratory milestone in the history of the Indian cricket. The film will be shot at real locations and will be going on floors early next year. The casting of the other players is yet in process and Kabir has already completed the script for the film.

Talking about the film, Kabir earlier said in a press statement, “As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup I had no idea that from that day onwards Cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”
