Varun Dhawan might have had an easy entry in Bollywood for being filmmaker David Dhawan’s son, but with his acting prowess and films that he has been a part of, he has proved his mettle and that he’s here to stay. And for the last seven years Varun has been in Bollywood, he has never rushed answers in interviews. Each time he is asked something, he explains his point with a lot of patience.

Recently, asked by a fan to share some guidance on how to make it big in Bollywood, the actor happily obliged. Known to be a people’s actor, Varun shared his personal journey before adding how “hard work, willpower and sincerity” are a must.
Referring to his father’s struggle as an outsider, Varun shared, “Before I even decided to become an actor, I was my father’s son. Coming from a small town, he knew nobody in the industry and worked very hard to give us a good life. He made 50 films and had a 70-80% success rate. He was a gold medallist from FTII (Film and Television Institute of India), he edited for Doordarshan, then got the opportunity to edit Saaransh (1984).”
Varun doesn’t shy away from admitting that he has been around on the sets while growing up, and he has seen his father struggle. “But, dad made it very clear he will not launch me or my brother [Rohit Dhawan]. In fact, he has been often asked to launch other people’s children and he does not do that, too. So, it was a challenge for me,” he adds.

{{/usCountry}}Varun recalls that when he started his career, his father was making films with actors Salman Khan and Govinda, and Karan Johar (who launched Varun in Student of the Year), was working with Shah Rukh Khan. “So, I had to work hard and keep on trying. I began my prep, took acting lessons and I was an assistant director for My Name is Khan (2010). This entire process of learning and working on myself helped me,” shares Varun, agreeing that it was easier for him to meet famous people in the industry, but the “rest of the journey was my own”.
