The Book: Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures, by Amber Dusick

The gist: Dusick's blog (complete with stick-figure pictures) on motherhood resulted in this book about the adventures of Crappy Mama, Crappy Papa, Crappy Boy and Crappy Baby.

One-line review: Writers are frequently asked to 'show, don't tell', and Dusick does a good job with her drawings, making you laugh and shake your head with her funny, wry look at being a mom.

Read it if: You want a quick read, and evidence that you're not the only mom battling poop and insomnia.

But: If you're not a parent, it's probably best to stay away from this one

The best line: A baby can't use a spoon or tie his shoes but he can delete applications from your phone.
